As we work towards naming the new Kitchener elementary school, scheduled to open in September 2018, we invite all members of our community help us name this school.
To help fire your creative juices, we looked at a little bit of the history of and vision for the Rosenberg community in Kitchener.
Named in recognition of Morley Rosenberg, former mayor of Kitchener, city planners are working to create a highly walkable and liveable neighbourhood that celebrates community. Like much of Waterloo Region, the area’s history has deep roots in family farming. Homesteads with names that remain familiar in our area include Henhoeffer, Huber, Hewitt, Ferguson, Orr and Ludolph. Some of you may remember cattle grazing in the fields surrounding the school site, and buying fresh rhubarb or other produce at the Kitchener market or even directly at one of the farms.
We encourage you to consider the new school’s geographic history as well as the current community as we seek to innovate tomorrow by educating today in this exciting new building project.
A committee made up of Kitchener trustees, the area superintendent, communications staff and the principal will select the name from the submissions.
Submissions have now closed. Thank you to all who submitted an idea. We’ll be announcing the new name at an upcoming Committee of the Whole meeting.
